Policy on Event Notices Directed to Club Members From SMBGC:
The Executive will maintain a Calendar of Events on the SMBGC website. Every effort will be made to keep this up-to-date but we do not accept responsibility for inclusion or accuracy of activities that are not SMBGC sponsored. Please carefully check details such as dates, times and locations (including a contact number) before providing information for inclusion to the calendar. Notices must be sent to the webmaster AT LEAST TWO WEEKS prior to the event date. Occasionally (approximately the middle of each month of the year) a Club Notice will be sent to members, in which notices received up to that time will be mentioned, or members will be referred to the Calendar of Events. Checking the website http://www.stmargaretsbaygardeningclub.org and clicking on "Calendar of Events" in the menu is the best way to keep up to date. Please note that only notices of the private events of paid members will be included, given at least two weeks notice. Please send any notices to Paula Fredericks, Membership/Web at teamwork_hfx.eastlink.ca along with your name and phone number so she can follow-up with you.

Policy on Donating Printed Material, Plants or other items at Gardening Club Meetings:
We welcome the sharing of printed material on gardening topics - such as magazines, seed catalogs, interesting handouts or pictorial material, and the sharing of seeds, seedlings, cuttings, pots and so on. Please place these items on (or under, in the case of large items) the table provided at the front of the meeting space.
The presence of free materials will be mentioned by the Meeting Chairperson. Before you leave, please remove any remaining items so that those tidying the meeting room don't have to evaluate and re-cycle or otherwise dispose of these things. Please don't bring things that are musty or dirty - as people may have allergies, and we are using a multi-purpose facility.

Policy on Donations by SMBGC to other organizations
Occasionally the Executive is approached by a charitable organization to make a donation on behalf of the SMBGC to one of many worthy causes in our large catchment area. Historically, the SMBGC has provided an opportunity for its members to donate to the St. Margaret's Bay Food Bank, by bringing non-perishable food items or a small cash donation to one of our eight yearly meetings. The Food Bank provides a volunteer to collect and deliver the donations. Over time, as funds allow and our Membership agrees, we have - and may again - develop one or more programs through which we make a specific donation to our local library, a local school, a student scholarship or other cause. Therefore, we will not be donating to other charitable causes at this time. This policy is based on the administrative and financial burden of responding to many potential donation requests. Any questions may be directed to the current President - Phil Warman at prwarman_eastlink.ca

Policy on Plant Orders
Who Can Order:
Only SMBGC members can participate in a plant order organized by the club; however, members are welcome to order for other people as long as their orders are incorporated within the member’s order form.
Plant Pick-up:
When possible, a pick-up point for the perennial order will be arranged in the crossroads area. The date for pick-up will be announced as soon as the date of plant delivery is confirmed by the supplier.
Members are responsible for arranging to pick up their plants during the designated pick-up time or notifying one of the SMBGC Plant Order Committee members, prior to the designated date, if that is not possible. Arrangements will be made to store the order for no longer than 3 days at a private home. Members are responsible for arranging to pick up their stored plants. After 3 days, stored plants will be disposed of or sold by the SMBGC.
Plant Failures:
The St. Margaret’s Bay Gardening Club (SMBGC) attempts to seek out interesting, hardy and high quality garden products for access by members. Our members report many successes and occasional failures. Based on numerous factors such as hardiness zone variations, soil conditions, gardener error, nursery issues, etc. some plants may fail to thrive for some or all members. The club will report significant failures to suppliers and assess the situation. We will also provide planting and care instructions, however we cannot guarantee remuneration for failed plants.
We want to know about problems you experience with plant material ordered through the SMBGC each year. If you feel a plant has failed to thrive as a result of the quality of the delivered plant, please contact one of the SMBGC Plant Order Committee members with the following information:
name of member, name of plant, date planted, date failure noted
committee members: Alison Bowness e-mail: rossalison_eastlink.ca
